By Lisa Gutierrez on 08/27/2009 I do something else. I can’t NOT do anything with my hands. I’ll try to make anything you show me the directions to. I’m not all that creative, I just kinda have to make things. Show me how to do something and I will do it.
I knew the basics of weaving, but I didn’t want to make huge pieces of cloth, nor did I really have the tools for traditional weaving (like a loom). So, when I found some directions for making a woven scrap journal, I started right away! You should make one, too! I already have a second one started. I am doing all the fun stuff right now and will add some paper to them later, maybe this weekend.
My current WIPs include an adult-sized sweater and a baby blanket. The large amount of stitches make them monotonous to work on. SO monotonous that I bought some lace yarn (mad props to Ravelry for the trade/sell option on the stash page) to make another Swallowtail Shawl. I need something a little more challenging! Plus, I remember being really happy after I knit my first. Remember that one? TWO YEARS AGO?! *sigh* Nathan was a baby, not a menacing pre-kindergartener with a Mickey Mouse tattoo, sporting terrifying baby guns.

I made this back in September, I believe. I am rearranging my craft area and I came across a tote bag and this was in it! no, there wasn’t any money in it, just my tiny sansa clip mp3 player. I should take up cross-stitching again.
the yellow fabric is, I believe, linen. It came form a set of a napkins I thrifted.

I made this little zippered coin purse for my sister for her birthday. I’ve been really lagging on crafts lately. It has to do with my oh-so-clingy-but-lovable baby. Even though I can knit while I nurse, I haven’t been doing much of that either. A knit hat that could have been done in a day has been on my needle for almost a week already! I wanted to knit a cowl for someone for Christmas, but I’m afraid I’ll start it and not complete it in time for gifting. While I’m sure the recipient wouldn’t mind a late gift, I wouldn’t feel right. so, I took advantage of the http://www.threadless.com shirt sale and stocked up on some gifts just in case I can’t make everything I want.
Wow…I can’t even finish this blog entry for the little one senses I am not there and wants me. I’m not complaining because…tada! I can nurse at the keyboard.
I’ve miraculously [almost] finished our Christmas cards before the middle of the month! I usually end up passing cards out on Christmas day. This time, I’m on top of it and perhaps some will go out in the mail within the next couple of days. All I need to do is pickup the prints then tape them into the cards, which have already been otherwise decorated. I did that pretty late last night, which explains the extreme fatigue I had this morning. Tomorrow, I get to address about 20 envelopes!
The Christmas season is fun.

By Lisa Gutierrez on 11/11/2008 I apologize for the neglect of this blog. It’s just hard to sit down and post when you have a chubby little guy pawing after you wanting milkies and lovies all day. I end up making things while I nurse him or when it’s late at night and all the boys have finally…finally!…gone to bed.
my sewing machine has taken a back seat to the fiber arts: knitting, crocheting, needlework. Those are all easy to do while you breastfeed. I have quite a few projects in my queue. MORE than I want to even talk about. I recently moved things around in my craft zone and piled all my “incompletes” on top of each other. really, a lot are “never starteds” and it makes me feel like I haven’t done ANYTHING in a long time. Ever since the beginning of my pregnancy, I’ve been less enthusiastic about crafting. On the other hand, I’ve been totally gung-ho about collecting craft supplies. Seriously! I don’t usually buy full-price, though. I gather coupons, I visit garage sales and thrift stores, and I scour closeouts. Just the other day, I visited a JoAnn that’s closing and bought 15 zippers! 15! I don’t even make things with zippers, BUT they were 90% off and I couldn’t resist. Who DOESN’T buy something that’s 90% off??? Crazy people, that’s for sure. I also bought a whole bunch of Gütermann thread at 80% off. The store closes (it’s actually moving to a new, BIGGER location) tomorrow and it’s making me anxious! I want to go right.this.very.minute. I think I may wipe them out of thread and zippers. They’re already out of useful yarn (wool) and only have yarn I’d pretty much never use (novelty). I would like to scour the remaining fabrics, but I usually have a baby attached to me and he gets fussy when I stop moving, so I tend to go in and come out really quick. Maybe I’ll check out the 90%-off remnants bin. There’s bound to be something in there I can use, right?
