I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I would go on and on about how tired I was after preparing for the day and then the 3 restless nights I spent with my toddler, who forgot how to sleep, buuuut I don’t want to!
Andrew finally let us all get some rest and so I’ve spent the past 2 days cleaning the house (TOY PURGE!) and experimenting with stitch patterns. After making so many of the same hat for my shop and for giveaways, then the dozen or so I made as Christmas gifts, I wanted to work on something new.
The above is called Harlequin stitch. It was a huge pain. I could not memorize it and had to reference back to my book (The Crochet Stitch Bible) after every row, sometimes even losing my place! It’s a 4 line repeat, yet my brain could not keep it in. But, boy is it pretty!
I was just testing the waters, so I used some scraps of Vanna’s Choice I had leftover from the hats I made for Christmas, including my favorite colorway, pea green. I just crocheted until I ran out. I ended up with a rectangle that made a pretty decent sized neck-warmer. I attached some vintage clear acrylic buttons and voila! It took me about an evening’s TWO evening’s* worth of crocheting. I sure do love it when my kiddos actually sleep like normal humans and not like crazed nocturnal ones. It leaves me time to knit, crochet, and blog.
*I was re-reading my post and realized I did this over two days, not just one. Referring back to the book over and over takes up a lot of time!
That is all kinds of beautiful! Can’t wait to see what else you come up with!!!!
Thank you! I’m not really sure about this stitch. I think I’ll try it in the round and see if it gets any easier to remember.
this is gorgeous!! I need to get a crochet bible.. I use youtube videos if i forget stitches but that doesnt always work!
That book I linked to in my post is the first crochet book I bought, way back when I first learned. It was many different stitches, edgings, square motifs, etc. It’s pretty handy!
I use youtube videos too!
It is indeed lovely! If I ever get really bored, I may attempt the harlequin, although I prefer stitches that I don’t have to think that much about. :)
Maybe it was just my tired brain not absorbing information! I say give it a try! It’s just a bunch of DCs and DC6TOG stitches mixed with chains and a SC here and there!
That is beautiful Lisa, love the colors! I wore my pretty hat all weekend and got lots of complements! Sounds like we had the same issues and chores this weekend…my little one decided sleeping and naps were stupid and we also did a lot of toy purging in the big kids rooms…3 trash bags full!
I hope you have a great New Year! ♥
xoxo~Meg
Awwww! That’s so great! I’m really glad you like the hat. Isn’t super soft?! I want a whole blanket made out of that stuff.
I got a huge bin full of toys and then a smaller box. I told my husband to look through it for anything sentimental and then to take the rest to a local thrift shop.
Oh, and I think that would make an amazing camera strap cover, just put some fabric on the back and viola!! I would buy one!
(o:
that’s a good idea! I would rather have the strap made with thinner yarn, though. This is with a heavy worsted, so it’s kinda bulky. Maybe a sock yarn would be nice, with a neat fabric on the back to keep it from stretching.
That would be perfect!! I think they would sell like hotcakes…I know I would buy one for sure! You could use vintage sheets for the backing, that would look amazing!!!!
it looks great! love the color combo :)
thank you! I made a lot of hats for men, this Christmas!
Oh that scarf is so pretty!
Thanks! too bad the weather isn’t being cooperative.
Wow, it looks awesome!! Love it!!
Happy New Year!
Thank you! Happy new year to you, too!
That’s the one thing about crochet that I have such a hard time with: changing colors! That looks amazing!
With this pattern, you change colors every 2 rows, so all changes are up one side. The only thing that drives me nuts about changing colors like that is the way they always end up twisted! I had 3 skeins hanging off, so it was tangles galore.
It looks wonderful! I love the stitch pattern and love the colors.
thanks!
