Loved & Loathed: Olives

loved & loathed: olives

Loved by: My husband and children
Loathed by: ME!

My kids beg for more olives. They can’t just have 1, 2, or 5. They want a truckload. I have to severely limit them, or they’d eat an entire can. I, on the other hand, cannot stand them. I tried. I really, really, really tried to love them. I’ve had many meals made with olives being the main flavoring component and…ugh. Just ugh. My kids get to split any olives I pull off my pizza. Good riddance!

But I’ll continue to buy cans of them just for my boys.

What about you? Do you love them or loathe them?

I LOATHE olives! My husband loves them and so does my dad and sister but I can’t stand them. The flavour is way too strong!

  • I loathe black olives (and probably green olives with pimentos – they look gross), but I really like Kalmatta olives.

Interesting! I’ve never tried kalamata olives, because they look just like black olives and I assumed they tasted the same.

  • For not liking them this is a pretty awesome picture! :-) I love olives – in salads, in pizzas, rice and by themselves. Send them my way if your kids ever get bored of them!

  • Loathe. I’ve tried and tried to like them, too, but they’re just icky. I do love olive oil, though!

  • Love the green ones, loathe the black ones! The black ones taste so… dusty, if you know what I mean. But green olives? Oh yes, give me a jar full and I won’t stop eating until they’re gone.

I tried a green one once and it was too…sour? I don’t remember exactly. I just remember putting them in my “do not eat” list.

  • mmm i used not to like them but now they are growing on me. I can still find them abit strong though.

they used to say that if you eat 11 in a row then you will like them. funny saying isnt it

They’re just alright. I don’t really love them and I don’t really hate them. If they show up in front of me like in my cocktail or on a pizza I eat them, but I’m not going to go snarfing all the olives I can get my hands on.

  • That’s pretty funny that your kids love something you don’t! Usually they take after you! Me? I’m pro- olive.

  • My sister and I are just like your kids (at least when it comes to olives). Omnomnom! We could eat a whole can…often when we’re cooking we’ll buy one just to snack on while we make dinner.
