Oh, sleep.

bed2

For the past 2 and a half years or so, we’ve had our mattress directly on the floor. We gave up our bed frame during co-sleeping because I was paranoid the baby would roll out, even with a side rail.

A few months ago, I pulled out the old crib mattress (I’m talking like SIX year old crib mattress we got for our first baby shower w/Nathan and hardly used because HE co-slept too) and decided to start transitioning Andrew into his own bed. Since then, he’s been sleeping right next to me, but in his own bed. I KNEW he could sleep on his own, as evident by his nights over at grandma’s house or how once he’s out, HE.IS.OUT and it really doesn’t/didn’t matter if we moved him.

SOOOO, we made the decision to start putting him to bed in Nathan’s room. Once and for all having a child-free bedroom. Oh, the freedom!

Last week, the husband and I finally decided to take the plunge and buy a new bed. Holy expense, Batman! We selected one that we felt was most comfortable in the showroom, though that was tough. I mean, come on! Our mattress that has been on the floor and jumped on a bajillion times in the past few years was NOTHING compared the comfort we felt that day. Imagine us going, “this one! No…this one!” about seven different times and finally selecting one. I don’t even know the brand and I DON’T CARE.

diptych: bed perspectives

This baby is comfortable. Times infinity. I laid on it and fell asleep within a few minutes. I was woken up by an Andrew in my face telling me it wasn’t sleepy time yet.

Wellll, it’s almost midnight, and I think it definitely IS sleepy time, now.

  • Gosh those pictures are beautiful! I wish my bed looked as pretty as yours does.
It’s so awesome that you have a super comfy bed all to your(andyourhusband)self. I’m cosleeping with my 8 month old and considering buying a new mattress when she eventually moves in with her big sister. That’ll probably be another year or more away!

Oh and I don’t think I’ve ever commented on your blog. I found it one day while blog hopping and subscribed and have enjoyed reading :)

  • All of ours are into their own room with their own beds now. (Even though they wind up in ours halfway through the night.) I’m thinking it’s about time we take the big bed purchase plunge too. Ours is Cory’s parent’s old mattress. The thing’s seriously from the 70’s and has to be loaded with 4 egg crates to be even halfway comfortable.

  • i love vintage bed linens…sooo much. Most of mine are. congrats on the new bed. & freedom.
