Help me remodel this room

I call it the breakfast room, but no one eats breakfast in there. I use the table to fold laundry since our laundry room (through the door straight ahead) is so tiny.

notice my tiny helper?:)

I was folding the millionth load of laundry on that table there and was SO fed up with the wall paper I had to stop. every time I passed the room, my hatred for it grew. I actually liked the wallpaper when we first saw the house. now? I’m quickly stripping it off. I got the first layer off easily and will be spritzing the walls with vinegar to get the rest of it off.

I’m still uncertain what color to paint this room. I’m thinking I should paint the wood paneling white, though. Maybe a nice blue or green for the top? advice?

should I paint the doors, too?! the one on the right is a closet and the one straight ahead leads to the laundry room. I want to use chalkboard paint somewhere, too. Perhaps on the wall by the light switches? It could be used as a bulletin board for the kitchen (to the right)–for lists, menus, notes, etc.

I definitely want to move the microwave out.

  • i’m so not good with this stuff…but i will say that i am looking forward to seeing this room transform!

  • What a fun project. I think if you paint the paneling white, you should paint the doors too. Chalkboard paint is always fun for little ones. Can’t wait to see what it looks like in the end.

Get rid of the wall around the door! It could be a nice big space for laundry, and you obviously don’t use the space chopped up as it is.

    • oh I would love to make it a large laundry room, or even expand my kitchen and just have my washer & dryer in more of a closet. Alas, my budget is super tight. Plus, I wouldn’t know how to check if that were a load-bearing wall. I’m restricted to paint and furniture. I’m thinking of turning it more into a nook–to actually make it more of a breakfast & homework room.

  • There’s some beautiful light coming into that room, so I would definitely paint it a light colour and it will instantly turn cheery. I’d paint the trim and doors white.
If you want some chalkboard paint, you could actually do it on one of those doors. Maybe the one with the bag hanging from it?
Is it a part of the kitchen? I’d definitely make it a living area if it’s attached to the kitchen.

    • one of the doors is definitely a contender for the chalkboard paint! the one you said is for a closet that we want to install shelves in for pantry run-off, so the chalkboard would be useful for a list!

the kitchen is directly to the right, so the space is ideal for the boys to do things while i cook/clean/whatever just a few feet away.

  • the lighting in this room is amazing! you can definitely do some awesome things with it :D

  • I can’t offer much decorating advice, but I will say that you should keep that little helper. What a cutie butt!
