Since I’m mildly obsessed with shop-stitching (explained in this post) and I already had the word “christmas” stitched, I decided to put it on the outside of our Christmas card, this year.
I really love using kraft card stock for our cards. Actually, I like using kraft colored everything. It just adds a sort of rustic feeling to stuff. I used it for our cards last year, and even the year before! I think I’m going to commit, RIGHT HERE AND NOW, to using kraft card stock for every Christmas card I ever make.
Inside, I attached a little ornament for folks to hang on their tree. Oh the joys of getting this done early! People aren’t receiving them ON Christmas, like I’ve done in the past, so they can actually put it somewhere in their house. Oh! I hope everyone enjoys them.
The main event of the card, though? My kids, of course:
I gave up on getting “good” photos of my kids for the cards…ummm…the very first year! In fact, when my oldest was 6 months old and enjoying his first Christmas season, my mother in law and I sat him in front of her Chistmas tree with only a Santa hat on. And I do mean only! He was at the age, though, where his hands tended to migrate south A LOT, so he did his own covering up and there were no penises in my photos. HA! Those didn’t end up getting sent to family. they’re pretty hilarious, though. He was SO FAT.
The years since, pretty much every Christmas card I’ve made has had a subject making a face, sitting without pants, not paying attention, or just generally being themselves. I like it that way. This year, I gave them both a candy cane and sat them on my love seat. I sat across the room and just…snapped away. Voila! That up there is THEM. All the way down to Andrew pretty much INHALING his candy cane and Nathan savoring it.
I sent the cards out, this weekend. I passed them out to those who I see regularly, or would see this weekend. The rest are in the mail, sent out to family and friends whose addresses I have. If you don’t receive one, then this lady doesn’t know where you live! Consider this your e-card. :)

This morning, this guy woke up before his big brother left for school. For the past two weeks or so, he’s been sleeping in until almost lunch time! So, after we sent Nathan off, I whipped up some oatmeal and took advantage of the lovely sun light shining through the window.
Big scoff at spoons! After he ate only about half of what was in the bowl, we went upstairs, brushed our teeth and now he’s sleeping! Yes. He only lasted about 2 hours before crawling into my bed and requesting songs and a back rub. Oh, I want to be 2.
P.S. I reeeally want to get rid of that wallpaper. I’m having nightmares about the breakfast room wallpaper, though, so I’m very hesitant!

polaroids taken with my spectra and edge-cut softtone film from the impossible project.
It took me a while to get used to my Spectra again. I loooonged for the single-lens-reflex of the SX-70. Oh, to be able to manually focus and seeee what you’re focusing on in the viewfinder. Shooting with the Spectra jets me down nostalgia lane. Some of my old pals may remember when Andy was a fattyfatfatty? Or when Nathan used to spend his days looking outside a third-story window? Sigh.
By Lisa Gutierrez on 09/12/2010 I’ve been doing that a lot. I don’t head to bed until it’s 2am, wake up a few hours later to get Nathan ready for school, stay up in the morning, yawning away, trying to be productive with my home. Then, I collapse next to Andrew, while trying to wake him up. He sleeps in. A lot. so, it’ll be 9am and I go stroke his chubby face and in between telling him I’ll fix him a yummy breakfast and that he needs a diaper change, I snooze. I wake with a start, sometimes hours later. And it’s lunch time. I usually feel worse.
I’ve let my blog reader get out of control. Well, really, I just haven’t had any time to read blogs, check on twitter, whatever. I have been busy with the breakfast room, busy with my living room, busy with my carpet, busy with home. It feels good. In one of those, “my feet hurt so bad because I’ve been barefoot forever just walking around the house!” or “I’m so tired, but let’s walk through Ikea, without taking shortcuts!” or “I’m so sleepy, but I want to finish these damn french knots!” way. It’s a good tired. My room had a little craft explosion set off, but I’m on the edge of not caring. I haven’t worked on berets or merchandise for my shop, but I’m having a smidge of fun jotting down ideas for patterns in my too-tiny pocket notebook.
It’s after 3am. I’m exhausted.
I promise to at least attempt to catch up, tomorrow. If there’s something completely amazing that I’ve missed in blogland, this week, please do link a girl up.
Until I have time to blog more thoroughly, here’s a photo of my littlest snuggling with my doily pillow:
By Lisa Gutierrez on 07/11/2010 So, that ear problem I mentioned in my last post turned out to be an infection. I lasted until Wednesday morning and then HAD to see a doctor. He said there was a small infection in my left ear. By this time there was swelling on my neck, so I needed some help in the form of antibiotics. Wellll, it defintiely got worse before it got better. In fact, today is the first day I’ve woken up without pain. My right ear also ended up being infected and so I’ve been having a hard time hearing the past few days. They’re still pretty stuffy, today. I hope that they get back to normal before my prescription runs out.
Because of my ear woes, I had no desire to do much of anything all week. No blogging, no crafting, no nothing. I just sat around being mopey and complained about my ears on Twitter (@goodknits).
I think I’ll be better, this week. I started making some brooch bases last night and I have a little photo shoot idea in mind for them. I really want to go antiquing or something. I need to get outta here! I’ve finally gotten that energy I was seeking all week.
I’ll leave you with this quick snap of my littlest getting his hair cut by Grandma, last weekend.
Don’t worry, ladies, she only trimmed it a bit. ;)
