After making so many of the same hat for my shop and for giveaways, then the dozen or so I made as Christmas gifts, I wanted to work on something new.

The above is called Harlequin stitch. It was a huge pain. I could not memorize it and had to reference back to my book (The Crochet Stitch Bible) after every row, sometimes even losing my place! It’s a 4 line repeat, yet my brain could not keep it in. But, boy is it pretty!

I was just testing the waters, so I used some scraps of Vanna’s Choice I had leftover from the hats I made for Christmas, including my favorite colorway, pea green. I just crocheted until I ran out. I ended up with a rectangle that made a pretty decent sized neck-warmer. I attached some vintage clear acrylic buttons and voila! It took me about <s>an evening’s</s> TWO evening’s* worth of crocheting. I sure do love it when my kiddos actually sleep like normal humans and not like crazed nocturnal ones. It leaves me time to knit, crochet, and blog.

*I was re-reading my post and realized I did this over two days, not just one.
