Hello, friends! If you hadn’t heard, my lovely little Dory pattern is in the current issue of Craftsanity! I made a few adjustments* to my original pattern to make it more Spring-friendly. In celebration of SPRING and all things yarny, I’m having this little giveaway!

To convert my Dory into something one could wear during Spring, I scoured Ravelry for yarn inspiration. There is SO.MUCH.YARN. out there.

I happened upon Bamboo Cotton (worsted) by Three Irish Girls and was smitten by some of the colors. It was a little pricey, but I bought two skeins from someone’s stash in the beautiful Sweetmint colorway. I knew I would love the color, but what won me over completely was the softness. Ohhhhh my goodness–it is SOFT. I wound up my skein immediately and got started. Soon enough, I had a lovely Spring shawl and only 9 yards left! Perfect!

Unfortunately, the Bamboo Cotton is discontinued, so I went on the hunt for something more widely available. I landed on Cascade Ultra Pima. It is equally as soft and available in a multitude of bright colors. It took a whole skein plus a few yards of the next, but I figured out a few adjustments** to the last border row to make it a one-skein project.

And now, the giveaway! I have a skein of Bamboo Cotton and a skein of Ultra Pima, so that means TWO winners! The first winner will select which they want and the second will get the other yarn. They’re both gorgeous, so there aren’t any losers here. Both winners will also receive a printed copy of Craftsanity! If you aren’t a crocheter and have zero interest in my Dory pattern, do not fret–there are knitting patterns in this issue (and all others), too! There’s something for everyone, so this giveaway is open to knitters and crocheters alike.

If you are a shop owner like me, you include a little something extra with your orders. Along with my business card, I typically include a postcard with a greeting and sometimes a customer appreciation code for future orders. I have been making my own by having my photos printed on 4×6 paper and using double-sided tape to attach an index card to that back. It’s hardly professional and I’ve admittedly been looking for alternatives.

I love the idea of getting a set of postcards to include with every order. They would have all the information I want to provide to my customers but still include a lovely photo.

I finished up my week of black & white, today. I’ve really fallen in love with photoshop, lately. I have been using my Summer Haze action (with tip) a lot for my color photos and then one day I played it on my black and white images and loooved the slightly hazy look it gave! I ended up tweaking the layers a bit, so I came up with a new action to make it easier/faster to get hazy B&W images. First: The pattern I’ve been promising for weeks has finally gone live! You can find it on the patterns page or by clicking here. Let me know if you make it! It’s a simple concept (half circle with a scallop edge), but I fear my directions may not be concise enough? I wanted a more formal pattern than my Mary Jane tutorial.

ANYWAY. To celebrate me finally getting on the ball and publishing it, I thought I should have a little celebratory giveaway. If you’ve been reading for a while, you may have heard me mention fabric tape once or twice. After nearly breaking the bank (or paypal) buying pretty Japanese washi tape, I decided I needed to cool it and DIY it a bit. Enter this tutorial and the absolutely amazing Xyron150into my life. MAN ALIVE, I WAS HOOKED!

I have used fabric tape on packages in the mail, on greeting cards, on postcards, on invitations, on pretty much everything I make that requires some adhesive or would benefit from some pretty.

The other day, I was writing in a composition notebook (you know, the kind of ugly marbled Mead ones) and it could REALLY use some prettifying. SO..out came the sticker maker and fabric.

I like to tear my fabric. It makes the strips straight and it’s just easier to me. You can certainly cut them if you’d like. I ran the 1.5″-ish strips through my Xyron 150 and out came beautiful strips of fabric tape ready for my notebook. I applied them horizontally from one edge, around the binding, to the other edge. It worked out beautifully!

The giveaway I have here for you guys is for a Pink Ribbon Xyron 150! I’ll include 2 extra cartridges (total of 3 = 60ft of adhesive!), so you can make as much fabric tape or stickers as your heart desires! I’ve been using mine since last year and let’s just say I now know to keep extra refills around because you can definitely get a little carried away turning everything into a sticker. :)

It’s time for a giveaway!

When I posted the woven doilies, last Wednesday, I knew I had to make more. I made a small one with only boyish colors, then another with some yellow hues, and most recently, this pink one. All the shades of pink scraps I had got put into this one. I absolutely adore it and I’m not even a big pink fan.

I think the outer bands of weaving kind of resemble a brick road, no? I put a black vintage button in the center because those reminded me of a poppy. Whatever you see, there’s no doubt that these colors are perfect for the Valentine season. I know I’ve missed the deadline for Valentine stuff, but I also KNOW there are a bunch of pink lovers out there.

This wonderful woven doily is framed by a beautiful Necchi embroidery hoop.

The back is gathered and most of the yarn ends are hidden. It lays relatively flat against a wall. I’ll include some extra pink yarn, in case you want to hang it another way.
