My baby turned 4, today. Wahooo! You may remember how he was born on the sidewalk. I will never NOT plug that birth story on his birthday.

He’s such a sweetie and thanked me profusely every single time I told him “happy birthday!” He was so happy and that made me happy. These two weeks are full of birthdays–him, his brother (6/2), his Poppie, his uncle–so we had a tiny little birthday par-tay at grandma’s house, on Saturday night. Today, we took it easy, and in early June we’ll have a double-fun-super-awesome-birthday-spectacular for both boys.

Here are some of my favorite photos from Andrew’s third year.

I celebrated six whole years of motherhood, yesterday. Six years of life for my son, Nathan. It was also his last day of kindergarten!

He wanted to go bowling, so we went to a little alley a few blocks away. We were starving when we finished, so we stopped at a favorite restaurant of his for dinner. They sang to him (his face was adorable when they showed up and burst into song) and gave him a free sundae! After he was done eating it, he made a request that we make this a birthday tradition for the rest of his life. That’s right, ladies…to win his heart, just give him some ice cream topped with fudge, whipped cream, sprinkles, and a maraschino cherry. He’ll be forever yours.

Let’s look back. A photo from every year of his life–

And now, he is SIX.

Handsome and funny and full of energy!

Our first day of summer vacation is going smoothly. He has a workbook to help keep his brain from shutting down and I’m starting a chore routine of cleaning in the mornings.

Plans for the rest of the summer include: not dying from heat, planting the rest of the tomato plants, taking a Metro ride to a museum or two (& to try out the Metro Rail!), working on our reading skills, getting Andrew to learn his ABC’s, and eating lots & lots of frozen popsicles!

For those of you who have inquired about an apron pattern, I’ve finished drafting one and will put up later this week! I’m going to go through it again and make sure I didn’t miss anything and that the directions are clear and concise.

My boys party was pretty darn fun. His teacher made it a point that if he wanted to invite friends, he had to invite the whole class. So. We did. I was a little bit afraid no one would show up and absolutely terrified they ALL would. How many did? ONE. She brought along her 2 sisters (one a year older, one a year younger), and baby brother who is Andrew’s age. A friend of mine from high school brought her daughter and with the 7 kids total, I was exhausted at the end. I cannot even imagine the chaos that would have been a bigger party! Boy! I bow down to you super mamas.

Like, I said, though, ’twas fun! So fun, I didn’t snap any photos until my kids were opening gifts. ooopsies! You’ll just have to trust me when I say the kids had a terrific time in the moonwalk. Nathan partied ’til he puked. That’s right. He lost his lunch after a bunch of jumping in 90-degree heat. Luckily, his friends were gone already, so only me and grandma witnessed it. We forced him into a chill-out period in his bedroom. He was drenched in sweat and looked awful. After about 2 hours of cool down, he couldn’t help himself and came back down and jumped some more until we turned the moonwalk off.

Sorry for the puke story. I gotta keep it real!

ANYWAY. I am SO GLAD IT’S OVER. And I’m also glad that it was a party for both kids and I don’t have to repeat it all in a few months. I can rest until next May. I don’t care about any events except my boys’ birthdays! That’s the mom life for you.

Now, I have time to do more goodknits related stuff. I have the apron pattern and also the Terzetto beanie pattern to share!

I’m taking a break from typing, today, though, and spending my evening cutting and/or tearing this fabric into strips so that I can make some gnarly fabric tape.

Lovely summer florals!

Any super sweet summer projects going on? For us in Coastal Texas, June 1 = summer. 90+ degrees every.single.day. I only wish it would rain. My lawn is dying!

One of the party decorations I knew I HAD to make for my boys party were these ruffled streamers I saw on MADE.

I was a little nervous, because my sewing skills leave something to be desired. I hesitantly bought 5 different colored pack of crepe streamer at Hobby Lobby and tried it out.

EASY PEASY. Like, seriously. I think it’s the perfect project for someone like me who has had problems getting the right tension when sewing. You want the paper to ruffle! I kept my tension at about 6 and everything came out perfectly! My machine was a little hot and bothered by the end of it, though.

The best part, though? The boys like them. AND they make a fantastic backdrop. I took some photos of Andrew on his birthday, yesterday. The streamers will stay up until after Nathan’s birthday on June 2.

Why does this time of year always seem to sneak up on me? My littlest turns 3 on Friday and then almost 2 weeks later, my oldest turns 6. You know what that means–CRUNCH TIME for party planning. The party will be smack dab in the middle of both birthdays. At what age do you think they’ll start hating me for forcing them to share a birthday party?

It will be the first time my son invites kiddos from his school to a party. His last day of Kindergarten falls ON HIS BIRTHDAY! So…we’re all pretty excited. The RSVP is now a lost art form, so I’m actually flying in the dark when it comes to preparing for the kids that show up. I’m going to be making extra everything and if NO ONE shows (oh gosh..) then I’m taking the party to THEM on that last day. Basically, WE WILL PARTY.

I’m spending the next week and a half-ish getting my house in order. I figured I should make a list of all the rooms that need to be cleaned/decorated/whatever and then check them off day by day. I can tackle one room a day, right? That’s totally reasonable! Kind of sad, but there are some rooms in our home that have yet to be really decorated properly. I just hope that once I get a room in order no one messes it up before the party. I’m going to have to be on high alert til then.

Wish me luck! I’m going to need it on the day I have to clean the boys’ room. GAHJFKLAJFLFKDJ! THE HORROR!

We’re all moved in. Not completely settled, and I don’t quite know how many weeks we’ll be living out of boxes, but all our stuff is HERE. Allow me a bit to get my bearings. I’m still trying to get used to some things, like: having a garage, the plethora of insects that exist, my kids having their own bedroom, not eating out every day, having a backyard to throw my kids into, etc. It’s fun!

I only just got internet service a few days ago, so it may take me a while to catch up with blogs. If anything super duper spectacular happened, please feel free to link a girl up! Thank you alllll for your kind comments of congratulations and whatnot. I really appreciate it. :)

While I was gone, two events took place. One: my cousin graduated from high school. Two: my oldest turned five. FIVE! CINCO! CINQ!

I made him a rainbow cake. He’s into rainbows right now. Ask him what color he wants to paint his room and he’ll reply with “rainbow.”

Today has been all sorts of awesome. Andrew actually slept in and so I got to putter around in the morning. After breakfast, he noticed my [naked] cupcakes on the table and promptly requested one. I couldn’t deny the birthday boy a cupcake, so I split it with him. He loved it. A little bit later, I frosted them and sent two on their way with my mom, who was picking up Nate at school, to give to his teachers.

While we were waiting for Nate & Grandma to return, my sister and I took Andrew outside for some birthday photos with the cupcakes.

I told you they were pretty! I didn’t get a chance to get a photo of the insides, but believe me when I say they are awesome! It was a beautiful little surprise when you split it. Everyone who had one loved it. Especially this little guy.

Nathan requested a giant rainbow cake for his birthday (2 weeks away)! I can’t wait! I used this recipe as a general guideline to making them. My only tip would be to put only 1t of each color batter in the [baking] cups, instead of 2. You wouldn’t have enough batter to do 2 and they’d be huge with 10t of batter. One was sufficient!

–
#4 on my 25 before 26 list is to try a new cupcake recipe each month.

So. As you may very well know, I turn 25, today. I’m still a baby, yes. A baby with babies, if you will.

I have seen this sort of list on a few blogs I frequent. A list comprised of “goals” to complete before the next birthday. I’ve been adding to this list for the better part of two months. I don’t know what this says about me, but IT WAS TOUGH! If I do this every year, I have no idea what the heck I’ll be listing. I’d *like* to imagine this means I feel fulfilled, but maybe it just means I’m unimaginative and not daring enough. Either way, I hope to come back to this post through-out the year to strike some off. I’ll let you know when I do. A few will have to wait until next March to meet their fate.

In no particular order, here is my list of 25 things to do before I turn 26:

<s>1. buy a house</s> (Our new home!)
2. take a photo of myself every week
<s>3. 25 handmade gifts</s>
4. 12 cupcakes from scratch (1 recipe a month)
5. 52 TtV shots (1 every week, or all in one day)
6. learn to drive (*shame*)
<s>7. take a road trip</s> (San Antonio!)
8. make a big-people quilt
9. make a granny square blanket
10. sew something at least once a month
11. lose 25 lbs
12. kiss on a bridge

Wish me a happy birthday (or an unhappy birthday, if that’s your thang; I don’t want to make you do anything you don’t want to) and you could win a lovely pair of Mary Jane slippers, crocheted by me! Choose between the two above*, -OR- if you absolutely loathe those colors, don’t have a mom/wife/friend who would like them, have tiny feet, and/or want to mess with me, I’ll crochet a custom pair. I’m a nice person and I kinda love you blog readers/random clickers.

Go forth and comment! 1 entry per person, pretty please. You can tweet about it, post it to your wall, talk about it in your blog, etc. The more the merrier! Contest ends when my birthday ends. I’ll post the winner on Monday morning.

*Slipper details: both are 100% acrylic. The yellow pair is made with some vintage yarn that has been in my stash for what feels like years. They should fit up to a size 9.5 (my size thanks to two awesome pregnancies), but are only about 9.5″ long, which is equivalent to a 7.5 in women’s shoes. What I’m trying to say is: they’re stretchy!
