Giveaway: YARN! edition

CLOSED!!!

03

Hello, friends! If you hadn’t heard, my lovely little Dory pattern is in the current issue of Craftsanity! I made a few adjustments* to my original pattern to make it more Spring-friendly. In celebration of SPRING and all things yarny, I’m having this little giveaway!

b1

To convert my Dory into something one could wear during Spring, I scoured Ravelry for yarn inspiration. There is SO.MUCH.YARN. out there.

I happened upon Bamboo Cotton (worsted) by Three Irish Girls and was smitten by some of the colors. It was a little pricey, but I bought two skeins from someone’s stash in the beautiful Sweetmint colorway. I knew I would love the color, but what won me over completely was the softness. Ohhhhh my goodness–it is SOFT. I wound up my skein immediately and got started. Soon enough, I had a lovely Spring shawl and only 9 yards left! Perfect!

Unfortunately, the Bamboo Cotton is discontinued, so I went on the hunt for something more widely available. I landed on Cascade Ultra Pima. It is equally as soft and available in a multitude of bright colors. It took a whole skein plus a few yards of the next, but I figured out a few adjustments** to the last border row to make it a one-skein project.

And now, the giveaway! I have a skein of Bamboo Cotton and a skein of Ultra Pima, so that means TWO winners! The first winner will select which they want and the second will get the other yarn. They’re both gorgeous, so there aren’t any losers here. Both winners will also receive a printed copy of Craftsanity! If you aren’t a crocheter and have zero interest in my Dory pattern, do not fret–there are knitting patterns in this issue (and all others), too! There’s something for everyone, so this giveaway is open to knitters and crocheters alike.

To enter, just leave a comment below letting me know what projects are on your to-do list this Spring!

Giveaway ends this Friday, March 30, at 11:59pm CST. I’ll announce the winner shortly after! CLOSED!!!

01

*My changes include using either of the two Spring yarns above + a 6mm hook and crocheting fewer of the main body repeat. It’s still the same size as the original, just lighter because of the yarn and gauge.

**Make a slst between each scallop instead of a sc.

I trying desperately to finish up a couple of swaps I’m in so I can get started in projects for myself and to give as gifts to friends and family. In the meantime, I’m perusing patterns and making lists of all the yummy yarns I have and what project goes best with them. I’m enjoying the swaps but I really want time to make something for a friend or family member.

  • I want to crochet a few doily blankets as Mother’s day gifts for my mom, sister, and mother in law.

  • There’s so much on my list! I’d really like to finish my grannies & ripples blanket soon.

  • I’m really excited about my first spring project – I’m making Quince and Co’s Dejeuner bag with their linen yarn called Sparrow!

  • Wayyyy up high on my to do list is to finish my all cotton afghan for my daughter. For some reason, I got son’s done in no time…and a year and a half later….

It’s Autumn here, and I am making crochet thigh high socks. IN MUSTARD!!!! I also am making ladies bonnets and scarfs for the easter stalls this year. I am so proud to have been asked to help with this local project :D

  • Woo hoo! I just finished a t-shirt rag rug with a Q hook, and I LOVE it! I now want to finish up a few baby blankets for friends!

  • I roped all my sisters into making an afghan for our mothers upcoming birthday & after that I’m hoping to make myself a springtime wrap! …maybe a dory ;)

  • I really don’t plan my projects out. When I feel the itch to crochet or knit I skim over patterns that I have saved and choose one that sounds fun to make. But I do want to make myself a few hats & scarves for when fall finally comes around again! Maybe I should start on Christmas gifts so I’m not rushing around the last month before Christmas like I typically do! Haha

I’m working on crochet owl hats and newsboy caps. I have been buying yarn from thrift stores in an attempt to use other people’s leftovers for crocheted flowers. I love when I can use a skein up to the last little piece!. I have a crochet bag I need to finish as well! Need to have it beach ready for my kids. I wish there were more time in a day! If there is anytime leftover I want to work on my loom knitting skills too.

  • I’m super excited to be finishing up an enormous yarn bombing project. Then on to a granny square afghan and a whole lotta socks. Also (and I know they’re not seasonal) I need to knit myself some gloves. I should be ashamed of myself as a knitter for not having any handknit gloves. Must remedy that situation.

Getting a head-start on some heirloom knitted blankets for each of my 4 little ones! Same pattern and colors but one varied color for each child…So want them all done in time for picnics or chilly nights under the stars! And…finishing up some long-promised and and now past-season fingerless gloves for my brother so he can carry them with him into the air force.

I want to make a chunky cable knit blanket because were are headed into Winter here in Australia and I love the look of chunky cables.

  • What a beautiful little shawl pattern. I’ve only just moved to a new home halfway across the US so I had put all of my crochet projects on hold. I’ve almost got my new studio set up but I have not yet decided what to make first. But now I think your Dory might be it! :)

Those colours are beaauutifuul! My spring projects will include finishing my first attempt at a Willow doily blanket (LOVE that pattern) as well as perhaps starting some sort of ripple project :)

  • This spring I am working on a Catherine’s Wheel stitch blanket for my cousin as a graduation present. She’s graduating with her Bachelor’s in Anthropology and I am so proud of her, she deserves an extra special present!

I’m working at the moment with a huge pullover made from unspun yarn. When it’s finnished, the next project will be a shawl which I’m gonna knit from my plant dyed yarns. But if I win these yarns, I might crochet a shawl to my mother as a birthday/Mother’s day gift :) Blue is her favourite colour.

  • I want to do your doily lapghan for my mom for Mothers Day. I just found your site and love it. Im an avid crocheter and love to make everything that tickles my fancy.

  • I’ve been doing a lot of work-related knitting and now that Spring is here & the work also is slowing I am making next for myself a loose and lacy top! Cannot wait! I love those colours, thanks for the giveaway!

  • I recently started crochet and having so much fun with it! I have a friend who is going to have a baby in June so I’m trying to finish a cotton baby blanket in time :)

Here in Australia we are heading into Autumn. Currently on my needles is a beautiful scarf made from Rooster DK yarn. After my scarf I am planning on knitting up the Fair Isle Yoke Jumper from A Stitch In Time Vol. 1. Sam xox

A crocheted market bag from Purlbee website and another bag in degrade’ colors.

  • A baby sweater for a friend’s new baby and a summer sweater for my daughter.

  • KimberlyNo Gravatar

I would love to crochet a clutch or purse!

  • I am making some spring hats

  • A bolero for my self for a wedding this summer :)

  • ZabelleNo Gravatar

A couple of shawls for the cold days of summer. I live in Canada after all!

  • I want to embark on my first jumper – not really appropriate for spring, but I’ll be prepared when winter comes round again. In the UK that probably won’t be a long wait. :)

  • I’ve been going over my list lately to figure just that out! In Texas, it may be hotter than hell outside, but inside we have a second winter. It gets absolutely freezing. I’m thinking some nice cotton or bamboo shawls that will be easy to carry but just cuddly and warm enough to not freeze. Perhaps some fingerless mitts also.

  • I have been dreaming up a few household projects such as cushions and table runners to work on over the summer as I have not long moved in with my boyfriend and we are starting a new life together and are still trying to make our house feel like a ‘home’.

But first I am just about to cast on (literally now, the yarn is sitting here in my lap) a pair of slippers to wear around the house in lazy comfort :oD

I want to finish at least one of the two blankets I’m working on, and make my mom a shawl. I made your Dory pattern for my sister over Spring Break, and I love it. I’d love to make again with a nicer yarn – no offense Caron Simply Soft. ;)

  • TraceyNo Gravatar

This spring I’d love to finish The Butterfly Hat I started back in February and knit a small shawl or bandana for myself :) And maybe try and start knitting some Christmas gifts, too. Not too ambitious, right? ;)

  • Right now experimenting with lace – getting into the jewellery possibilities — also started a huge afghan for a friend for an autumn birthday – so there’s no hurry :-)

  • KimNo Gravatar

Fellow issue contributor here. Loved your pattern so much when I saw it, that I am going to ask my crocheting friend to teach me how to crochet just do I can make one!

  • Jen G...No Gravatar

Right now I am knitting a pattern called Rae and then I have had your Dory pattern waiting to go next!
    Thanks…

  • Oh this Spring, I intend to start to living a healthier lifestyle, learn how to crochet amigurumi and I will complete my first knitted sweater… nothing earth shattering but challenging all the same.
