Pattern: My go-to ripple blanket pattern
Yarn: Bernat Softee Baby in “Flannel” AND Loops & Threads Snuggly Wuggly in “Mint” and “Cool Baby” // both found at Michaels
Hook: 5mm (US H)
My beginning chain was 146 and it took about a week to complete. For some reason I didn’t carry my yarn up the side, so I had something like 34 ends to weave in when I was done. Grumble.
I’m kind of in love with the soft contrast of the aqua and mint. I’m usually all for BRIGHT & BOLD colors for baby blankets, but this….this pleases me.
LOVE this. the colors are so sweet too. i have a ton of baby blankets to make, definately using this pattern for at least one of them!
It’s so classic! I hope my kiddo has his when he’s a grown up. Maybe as a decoration in his smelly college dorm or something. heh

Since I started and ended with gray, I added a single crochet border in that color. Just one row!
This is my first ” real” crochet project and I’ve just finished my last row. Is the next step to weave in the ends? How do you do this? Then, is the last step a single crochet border all the way around? I’d be happy to send pictures if you’d like to see it.
It doesn’t really matter. You can make your SC border (I do one on each side) before or after you weave in the ends. Just get a yarn needle and hide the tails in your stitches. I usually go one way about 2-3″, then I go back. This way, I have like 6″ of tail yarn in my work, in case any of it comes out after washing or if someone picks it out.
Love the blanket and pics going to start one today for my little one she loves blankets. But I have a question. Yours looks different from the one on the link. Is it the ribbed ripple?

Okay I must be doing something wrong! I have started and pulled out my work four times! I somehow end up with two extra stitches after row one, then the peaks and valleys always end up off by a few stitches on row two and never line up! The pattern says to do 3 st dec in the next 3 ch… Does that mean you do the 3 st dec stitch 3 times in the next 3 chains? That doesn’t look to be how you did it in your blanket, but maybe that’s where I’m messing up? I just did the 3 st dec once before starting the next 6 dcs. Any ideas?
The first row is always the hardest with these blankets! First, make sure you have chained a multiple of 16, then add 2. I started with 146.
Next, when you do the 3st dec in the beginning chain, you just do it once over the 3 chains it tells you. Make sure you don’t forget to do the decrease at the end of the row (a 2st dec)!
If your first row works out OK, but you have extra stitches on the next row, make sure you are skipping the first stitch, because the beginning chain 3 of the row counts as the first DC. After you get the first few rows, it should be pretty intuitive. You’ll be increasing in the center stitch of each peak and decreasing across the 3 valley stitches.
I hope this helps you. Take it easy the first row and don’t let it win!
Chrissy! I did the same thing. For me the issue was I just took the numbers and didn’t do the math. 146 is the foundation row PLUS the chain 2. So it’s actually 144 chains, and then 2 chains then turn. Not 146 plus chain 2. If that makes sense I think that is what you’re doing. If you’re sure the stitches are right then you can always try to undo the two spare chains from the foundation row instead of starting again!
How many skeins do you need?
I believe I used 2 gray and 1 each of the colored yarn.
Really lovely color combination! I also like the golden one and the boyish tones…
What are the dimensions of the final product?
Crib size, I believe. I’m not sure of the exact numbers.

Help me!! I used the easy ripple afghan patern from your web address above. It was flat – the picture shows it sticking up. I read above you crcheted it in the back loop. Is that correct.? I have 4 requests of this pattern from friends.
Question. I’m just starting Row 2. It says Ch 2 and turn. Skip first stitch and then dc in the next 7 dc. So do I start in the second chain that I just made when doing the “Ch 2” OR do I skip the first stitch on the afghan and start there. Thanks for your help!

Ok soo I have a questions also. I am just working on row two.. just started it seems to me like the peaks and valleys aren’t the same as row 1.. is it supposed to be that way or did I miss something. I believe I did it all right.
Also I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BLANKET. I am going to do the ripple pattern as well. it will def make for a nice texture to it.
Figured it out but I have another question.. I’m makign this for a newborn.. Would you suggest washing it before using it on the baby or using it as is once completed.
If it was my baby, I’d wash it with some baby-friendly detergent. If it’s a gift, I just give it to them and make a note that they should wash it the way they’d wash a store-bought blanket.

If you look at the original pattern, it tells you how many oz per color it takes
This is adorable! I started this blanket for a neighbor who is waiting to find out the sex of her baby due in August. You are right, once you’re past the first few rows, there is no need for a pattern. How did you finish off your sides? It looks great!
Another question for you as this is my first attempt at making a baby blanket. How many color changes/what was the final length of the blanket.
I just started this blanket, can anyone tell me why my 3 increases in the peaks and my 3 decrease in the valleys do not line up from row to row? (the picture lines up perfectly)

I’d like to know this too. I am having the same problem. They’re one past the previous row, instead of directly centered.
Mine our the same way. I know I’ve done everything right as far as the directions go or apparently I haven’t if I’m having this problem. I have added a 2 st decrease to the end of every row and then added a double crochet after that and it has helped a little, they are balancing out the valleys but the peaks are still a little off. I would still like to know where I went wrong for the next time.
I had that same problem when i started. I think my count was off on my initial row so I just did the short decreases on the side until I was able to get the peaks and valleys to match

I’m finishing off row 1 and I ended with exactly 6 dc but no extra chains to do the 2 st dec. Am I supposed to do 4 dc instead of 6 and then the 2 st dec or am I two chains short?

I noticed that I forgot to do the first part of row 1 (Dc in 3rd ch from hook; dc in next 6 ch, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 6 ch) and instead I Dc in 3rd ch from hook, then went straight into the next part (*work 3 st dec in next 3 ch, dc in next 6 ch, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 6 ch; Repeat from * across). When I took it all apart I wasn’t short the two chains though, weird! Do you think since I did it out of order that’s what made me two short? I’m so confused but am determined to nail this pattern LOL!

Thank you so much for the interest. Unfortunately, I do not sell chevron blankets. They are just so time consuming (6-8 hours of work, depending on the yarn!) and would not be a profitable venture for me. I’m not sure how some folks can charge so little, but there ARE some on Etsy. Just search “crochet chevron blanket” or some variation of that phrase and it should bring up some listings. I don’t vouch for any of the shops, so please shop at your own discretion!

I am not entirely sure, but I *think* it just may be something to do with tension/gauge. I think a looser tension will create more of a ripple than a zig-zag. Perhaps try a swatch with a smaller hook?
How many rows did you do?
Hi Lisa, I’m crocheting the chevron baby blanket and have come across some issues — to confirm, does the turning chain 2 count as a double crochet in the rows? When I reach the end of each row, I’m always coming up with 3 stitches and not 2 – by 3, I am referring to 2 double crochet stitches (in the previous row) and then the final turning chain 2 (again, from previous row) I’ve tried to figure out what I’m doing wrong, and have read through the comments to try & find an answer, but no luck.
Brooke, it does. At the end you dc 6 then end with 2 dc decrease(instead of a 3 dc decrease). I’m working on this now.
