The August Break 23 (Jack’s Blanket)

The August Break 24

I am Jack’s big squishy blanket.

My friend is just about due with her second baby– a BOY! She has a daughter that’s Nathan’s age and we’ve been friends almost as long they’ve been alive. I wanted to make something special for her new little one. She once paid me to make a baby blanket for a friend (in my first few years of crochet!) and that made me realize I can create beautiful things for people. She kind of invested in me, you know? That sort of feedback is amazing for growth. Thank you, Courtney!

Lovely blanket! Uh, I already want to begin making new ones for the winter time.

Gorgeous! I really want to crochet a zig zag blanket but all I know how to do with corchet is granny squares.

    • To make a granny square, you use the double crochet (DC) stitch. The ripple blanket is a series of DC increases and decreases across a row. The increase is simple–just make 3 DC into the stitch the pattern specifies. The decrease is a bit tricky, but totally do-able! there are videos on youtube that explain it. If you are interested and need some help, do e-mail me! I’d love to give you pointers. :)

  • I love everything about this from the pattern design all the way down to the name added! Your work is amazing, as always! Is this a pattern you are working on? Would love to make one for my son!

    • Nah! I’ve made a few ripple blankets in my day and I’ve used the instructions found here– http://www.handcraftingwithlove.net/yarn/pat-ripple.html
      The modifications I make are:
      Beginning chain 146.
I crochet with worsted weight yarn and I-hook.
I make all my stitches into the back loops of the previous rows’ stitches.

I work for as long as I like the blanket or until I run out of yarn! The name tag was single crochet with cross-stitch letters I graphed out on paper. Have fun!

    Great blanket!

I can’t even seem to get my rows that even. I should probably make sure I count each stitch in the future.

  • Oooh – it looks so cozy!! And I *love* how you added his name to it!!
