July Cupcake

cupcake of the month.4: peanut butter on chocolate

Here’s my cupcake of the month, just in the nick of time! I was really craving chocolate, last weekend, but never got around to making the cupcakes. I had some extra time, yesterday evening, and whipped these up. I used the chocolate cupcake recipe on joyofbaking.com and a peanut butter frosting recipe from allrecipes.com.

They came out pretty delicious. The cupcakes were moist and not overly sweet, which is a plus for me. The frosting tasted like the center of a Reese’s peanut butter cup, so that was pretty rad. My kids absolutely LOVED them. Especially Nathan, who usually isn’t into baked goods if they don’t involve a certain song and presents afterward. I’d call these a success.

!!PLUS!! Anytime I get to use all of my mixing bowls at once makes me smile inside. There’s something about these vintage Butterprint Pyrex bowls that gets my blood a-flowin’.

  • I’m super jealous of your pyrex. I search for it every time I go thrifting and always come up empty handed.
I made a bunch of mini cuppies just like these not too long ago. I considered eating the icing with a spoon.

I look at thrift stores, too. I’ve only found one mixing bowl and it was kind of overpriced. Luckily, it was a half-off day, so I didn’t feel too bad. This craigslist bowl set was a steal, though!

  • Love the bowls! squee! Oh, and the cupcakes look delish. Right after you said they taste like Reese’s I immediately clicked on the recipe. I heart Reese’s. Awesome pics, btw!

yeah. The cupcake recipe, though, wasn’t as sweet as other chocolate cakes I’ve had, so I think it kind of evens out.

Sounds like something i’d love but i’m afraid to try it! Peanut butter icing with a icing-loving peanut-allergic 4 year old makes me way nervous.

  • mmm, nom nom ! they look great! and the bowl is so cute!
